New to Mountain Jam, ?'s about '08...

Hey folks,

I'm a long time festival veteran, but have never been to Mountain Jam. My buddy and I are seriously considering it for our summer 08 destination, and was hoping to get an idea from you all about the vibe there, how might it be different from other festivals, etc...

Any information would be appreciated.

Just a word on how nasty AOD is...I grew up on Strangefolk and all the Wormtown Trading Co. festivals and I was skeptical about Reid's new project ever since I first heard of it. In fact, I was downright angry that he left our New England pride because of graduate school, all the complications with Jon's cancer, creative stagnation, etc. Bullshit! The Assembly of Dust is nasty! While their Bonnaroo set in 05' was absolutely rocking - livebonnaroo.com/frameset.asp?downloads - I had yet to see...

has anyone heard of a dvd (containing both mule sets and the phil set along with performances by all the other bands) being released?

No drum circle?

I was disappointed that there was no drum circle scene at Mountain Jam. I saw a few people bringing djembe's in but I didn't hear them anywhere. Many of the festivals I've been to they have a fire and an area setup ( with bails of hay ect.) for a drum circle. Even at places where fires are not allowed they would have a fire for drum circle. It would be great to have someone organize one next year.

Had a great time at my first Mountain Jam. The 3:00 a.m. red-wagon races down the mountain were a little hard for the old folks, but the daily music offerings way made up for the lack of sleep. I had a wonderful time at the show on sunday and wish i could have been there all weekend. but i was disapointed in some of you folks with young ones. I have a two year old daughter and would hyave loved to share this experiance with her. yet knowing i was going to party like a rock star i left her at home.

Since many of my other pet peeves of the weekend have already been addressed ( tweaking wookies, rain, etc ), I'll fire this one up. Was anyone else accosted by the Krishna guys peddling dvd's and not taking no for a goddamned answer?. Bigblooz and I weren't on site 20 minutes before one of these guys honed in. ski lift climber

does anyone know what happened to the kid who climbed to the top of ski lift #2? he got up there like a shot and scared the sh*t out of everyone cuz all we could imagine was him falling 300 feet down.....he came back down peacefully, safely and quickly once the fuzz arrived but i'm wondering what went on after they took him away........

what did everyone think of the "security" forces at the jam this year? what was with all the "rats in a maze" set up??? last year we just pulled up to the learning center, checked in, got a parking spot, cut thru the ctr and set up camp. last year the bathrooms were open and there didn't seem to be any Gestapo. I don't know...was it me or does anyone else think there was overkill? i don't recall any bad times last year but maybe it got out of control at some point....
